‘The Invisible Scars’, a project which talks about abuse through the medium of photography.  Photography for me is a way to understand as well as spark a conversation about the existing side-lined realities of life. My focus on the reality of child abuse, through the lens of photography, comes from this urge to break this internalised ‘taboo’ and to normalize talking about such issues in the 21st Century.

As Hanya Yanagihara in  A Little Life says that, “The word no, so short, so easy to say, a child’s sound, a noise more than a word, a short exhalation of air: all he had to do was part his lips, and the word would come out, and—and what?” nothing stops. Why is it that even though this ‘child’s sound’ holds so much power, either it isn’t uttered at all or is ignored?

Drawing from my personal experiences, this ongoing inquiry is focused mainly on the psychological effects of child abuse which I very commonly refer to as Emotional abuse in this project. It is a means to understand the idea of abuse itself through the violent medium of photography. (On going)
